Kansas National Guard

Project details

The Kansas National Guard enlisted EnergyLink to complete an energy redevelopment project with various renewable and efficiency upgrades for their Salina base. The goal of the project was to advance statewide sustainability, with this project set as the pilot for future Kansas National Guard facility upgrades.

  • On-site power generation: A 390.23 ground mount solar array will provide a source of renewable power for the Salina base, allowing independence from the local utility grid. The installation will lower carbon emissions facility-wide.
  • Alternative power source: A 400 kW CAT diesel generator will be installed as an alternative to using natural gas for a backup generator. Diesel has a higher energy value than natural gas and can generate more power with a smaller generator. Diesel generators also require less maintenance. This, combined with the solar array, will provide continuous power, even in emergency situations.
  • Improved plumbing: Low-flow toilets and new pipes will be put in place as a necessary upgrade to the Salina base’s plumbing system.
  • Job creation: This project will allow EnergyLink to hire locally to directly impact Salina, KS on a socioeconomic level.
